Every Sir Jacobs porcelain vessel is made by hand in our Johannesburg studio. Slip cast, fettled, fired to 1220°C. No two pieces are identical; subtle variation in surface and tone is the evidence of genuine craft, not a flaw to be corrected. What you receive has been made, not manufactured.

Burning

Double wicked for an even pool. Give it three hours on the first burn, trim the wicks to 6 mm before each light, and never burn longer than three hours at a time.

Details

Approximately 310 g of wax, around 35 hours of burn. Burn it to the end and a handmade porcelain vessel remains, ready to hold whatever comes next.

The wax

Pure soy, and nothing to hide.

A candle you burn in your home should be as considered as the vessel that holds it. Ours is poured from a single wax, chosen for a clean, even burn.

100% natural soy wax

One wax, plant-grown and renewable. Nothing blended in to stretch it.

No added dyes or artificial stabilisers

The cream colour is the soy itself; the scent is the only addition.

Vegan and cruelty-free

No beeswax, no animal derivatives, nothing tested on animals.

Textured by nature

A sculpture of natural texture.

Every Sir Jacobs collection is drawn from textures that occur in nature. Each vessel carries an intricately detailed sculpture of that surface, visually striking and made to be interesting to the touch.

Made by artisans

Patience, the most important ingredient.

Every vessel is made by hand in our studio in Johannesburg, South Africa. Porcelain cannot be hurried: between every touch of the maker's hands, the clay asks for time.

Day 1

Casting

Porcelain slip poured into the plaster mould

Porcelain slip is poured into the plaster mould, where the vessel takes its form and texture.

Day 2 to 3

Drying

The vessel resting after release from its mould

Released from the mould, the vessel rests two full days, giving up its moisture slowly and evenly.

Day 4

Fettling

Seams refined by hand

Every seam is refined by hand, then the vessel dries once more before the kiln.

Day 5

Firing

The kiln at 1220 °C

Fired to 1220 °C, then left a full day to cool inside the kiln.

Day 6

Polishing
